Doozy Solutions Launches the Sustainability Center

A Greener Future for Beverage Production

Sustainability is a hot topic in the business world right now, and companies of all sizes and specialties are looking for ways to measure their corporate consumption and waste.  As an industry singularly impacted by climate change, the alcohol beverage sector is leading the charge in finding ways to reduce its overall carbon footprint and make greener decisions when it comes to production and operations. Many companies are considering how to begin or further their environment, social and governance (ESG) initiatives and move toward a more eco-friendly future — for both strategic and social benefit.  According to consumer research by the IWSR48%  of U.S. alcohol drinkers report that a company’s sustainability or green initiatives have a positive influence on how they make purchasing decisions.  That is compelling evidence that speaks to where the market is heading and how consumer priorities are shifting.

We have found through many conversations with craft beverage ERP customers that the key issue with understanding (and improving) a company's environmental impact is twofold: the difficulty of measuring the impact, and the difficulty of understanding the ROI of any initiatives.  In response, we are pleased to announce the launch of the Sustainability Center: the first NetSuite application to track corporate sustainability efforts.

When the module is made available in 2023, it will enable companies of all types to measure the effects of their operational and sustainability measures, aggregate data for auditable reporting, and pinpoint areas for improvement or investment. While that sounds somewhat complicated, the module itself is not. It has been designed as a user-friendly framework for organizations at the beginning of their sustainability journey.

"Tracking resource usage and waste management metrics is key to an operation’s understanding and management of its environmental impact. The inclusion of these metrics within a company’s NetSuite solution provides unique clarity about resource cost and utilization, as well as progress toward any sustainability goals, within the overall context of the business."
— Jeremy King, co-founder and chief solution architect at Doozy Solutions

First Steps Toward Sustainability

The Sustainability Center is designed to help companies immediately benchmark key consumption and waste metrics, identify areas to improve or invest, and keep track of their progress via key performance indicators (KPIs) related to their sustainability goals over time. It will also allow them to aggregate data from multiple sources into a single report. This means that companies can easily see the progress they’ve made toward their sustainability targets and make changes as needed in order to reach those goals.

The Sustainability Center comes equipped with eight preset sustainability metrics:

  1. Electricity Usage
  2. Fuel Usage
  3. CO2 Usage
  4. Water Usage
  5. Wastewater Usage
  6. Waste Disposal
  7. Waste Recycling
  8. Waste Composting

This is just the beginning, however. For organizations seeking a deeper understanding of their usage and waste, the Sustainability Center can be configured to track and report on a nearly infinite set of data points throughout the value chain. The app is designed with both experienced and novice sustainability practitioners in mind — those who have been working on green initiatives for years, as well as those just getting started down the path . Organizations at any stage of development or growth when it comes to sustainable practices will be able to  access the information they need quickly and easily without having extensive prior knowledge or experience with tracking KPIs related to environmental impact measurements.

The module has been built as an expandable framework, able to be installed with minimal configuration (generally less than an hour of work). Its simplicity and ease of use encourages organizations to customize the metrics set based on their activities, supply chains, and consumption and waste targets.

A Sustainable Future for All

If you’ve heard it once in the beverage industry, you’ve heard it a thousand times: You must know your customer. Great product alone isn’t enough! Customer data is arguably among the most critical pieces of information you can collect and analyze in any business, particularly in the increasingly competitive beverage industry. To succeed, you must clearly understand your customers’ needs and behavior as well as solicit their feedback. Having accurate, real-time customer data can ignite your sales processes – if you know how to use it.
Two men working in brewstillery, and one is using a beverage ERP
By Sheri Pape-Blythe 03 Apr, 2024
The beverage alcohol industry has seen a dynamic shift over the last decade. Beer, once the leading bev-alc drink of choice, officially gave up its position to spirits in 2022. As the demand for beer went down, craft breweries began investigating ways to draw in new customers and create additional revenue streams. At the same time, distilleries recognized the many similarities between beer and spirits – such as equipment, ingredients and production – and created hybrid operations. Thus, the “brewstillery” was born: a brewery/distillery combo that’s elevating craft to a new level.

A shift has been happening in the picturesque valleys where vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see. It’s not heralded by the clamor of machinery or the bustle of harvest; it’s signaled by the click of a mouse and a brisk tapping noise on a keyboard. While the 2024 Silicon Valley Bank annual wine report paints a sobering picture of waning consumer demand and climbing production costs, there is hope for wineries willing to embrace change and leverage the power of data.
